Asthma and Headlice

Asthma

Please inform the office and class teacher if your child needs to have access to asthma medication or inhalers.

A child with asthma should have access to their inhaler in school. We also request that you give us another named inhaler to retain in school as a back up.

Please inform us if your child has been diagnosed with asthma at any time.

Headlice

This is a national problem, not at all unusual, but often distressing for both parents and children.

If we are aware of cases in school we will send out ‘alert’ letters, encouraging you to check your child’s hair and seek advice and support from the school nurse if there is a problem. Individual letters will also be sent out to the parents of children affected.

When a child is repeatedly getting headlice, the school can make a referral to the school nurse with the sole intention of giving support to eradicate the problem. The best advice we can give is to check hair on a regular basis, tie back long hair (behind the back of the head, bunches can still fall forward and make contact with other heads/hair) and use the wet-combing method to remove adult lice.
